"It's the most wonderful time of
the year," and we love the sleigh ride season! Northern
Minnesota is truly a winter wonderland and nowhere is the
experience more enchanting than on a horse drawn sleigh,
snuggled under a pile of warm quilts.
Our sleigh rides are offered in the
evening so you may enjoy the crystal clear view of starry skies
and the Northern Lights. Our 2,000 pound Belgians who will pull you along lantern-lit
trails. The three-quarters of an hour ride
concludes with home-made hot chocolate served from a wood cookstove
in the warmth of Mark and Nancy's century-old log home.
Sleigh rides at Okontoe have become a
yearly tradition for many, with riders aging from 1 month to 100 years old! Our guests, who have come from all over the United States and from over forty countries around the world, frequently comment that
"this was the highlight of our vacation". Since our sleigh ride beginnings in 1994, we have been featured in the Country Woman and Midwest
Living magazines and on Ron Schara's Minnesota Bound and Jason Davis' On the Road television
shows, for which we are very grateful.
All sleigh rides are "private party", carrying only the folks you bring. The Deluxe sleigh, with it's ornate woodwork and red crushed velvet seats, carries two passengers and is perfect for your romantic celebration. Our other two sleighs accommodate up to six and twelve passengers. The sleigh ride season is dependent upon snow conditions, but generally runs from the second full weekend in December through the end of March. Please feel
free to call and check on early and late season trail conditions
if you plan on being in the area at that time. Christmas through New Year's, Valentine's and President's weekends are especially popular times for sleigh rides, so early reservations are encouraged. However, even if you think it is "too late",
give us a call because a spot may just have opened!
Sleigh rides run Tuesday through Saturday nights at 6:30, 8:00, and 9:30 p.m. Our base rate is $110 for the first two people and $15 for each additional person. The Deluxe sleigh ride for two is $145. A deposit of $110 of the total cost is required for all reservations. The balance can be paid after the ride by cash or check (sorry, we can't accept credit cards).
