The thirty-two site campground is
situated on one hundred acres of beautifully wooded land,
bordered on both sides by the small, non-motorized lakes, Bow
and Quiver. A shallow creek runs through the middle of the
campground to join the lakes. Nearly all of the sites are
lake-side or lake-view and privately spaced from the others.
Each site is furnished with a picnic table and a fire grate in a
stationary pit. We welcome your pets (they are a part of the
family too!), and ask that in consideration of other campers,
they be cleaned up after and kept on a leash. The campground
opens on Memorial Day weekend and closes at the end of
September.
Now for the stuff everyone wants to
know:
We Offer: Flush toilets, hot showers,
public phone, canoe rental, firewood for sale, water spigots
throughout campground, electric hook-ups in some sites, a
swimming beach, and a small camp store.
Fishing: Okontoe is on Bow Lake. Bow
connects to Quiver and Quiver to Shoko. All are non-motorized
except for electric trolling motors. You may expect to catch
walleye, northern pike, small-mouth bass and panfish. Bait for
fishermen: "Okontoe" is Chippewa for "waters of
many fish."
Wildlife: Many animals and birds seem
to have made a home at Okontoe too (or at least like to visit),
so you may likely see moose, deer, fox, beavers, rabbits, ducks,
otters, eagles, squirrels and chipmunks. See our image
gallery.
Nearby on the Gunflint Trail:
restaurants, gift shops, canoe
outfitters, motorized boat rental, laundromats, mountain
bike trails, hiking trails, guided fishing trips,
guided horse back trail rides, groceries, bait and tackle, ice
and gas.
Weather: 60-85 F degrees, daytime
temperature, with cooler nights. Lots of sunshine, but come
prepared for rain showers. See weather from Weather.com -
Grand Marais
or Weather
Underground - Grand Marais.
We welcome our guests to a
non-denominational worship service held at 10am on Sunday mornings at the
campground.
Please call for reservations
and other questions.
